Australian Defense Minister Joel Fitzgibbon resigns

Joel Fitzgibbon,who is the defense Minister of Australia resigns his job. This is the first resigning of the member of labor party government since Prime Minister Kevin Rudd won power in November 2007.

Australian newspapers reported that Mr Fitzgibbon’s letter to Mr Rudd said he could not be “satisfied that he had entirely conformed with your Ministerial Code of Conduct “. This was started when Mr.Fitzgibbon failed to explain on the gifts that he received including the trip to china he did.

Mr Fitzgibbon earlier declared a statement of about a conflict that exist between the government and his brother company. He also had to correct the records earlier this march in a hurry about the expenses which he didnt pay for the travel made by a chinese-Australia women named Helen Liu. Furthurmore, he was asked to apologise on  failing to explain on how the expenses was paid for him by a private health organisation which is held by his brother.

Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd ,however, in a press conference said that Mr. Fitzgibbon was a “First Class Minister” and a good member. And he also added that for serving the people ,his government expects “high standards in accountability“. And finally Mr. Rudd concluded stating the replacement for the defence ministry will be done very soon
