17 Year olds can now get contraceptive pills without a doctor’s prescription

The Food and Drug Administration(FDA) has lowered the age limit for morning-after pill to 17. It was previously available to only the age 18 and older. This step by the FDA was taken after a judge’s order to lower the age limit. Now 17 and older can get this morning-after pill to avoid unwanted pregnancies from over the counter without any prescription. Though this step was not really taken in the view to prevent teenage pregnancies it might help to an extent to lower them.

The drug consists of two pills which have to be taken within 72 hours of sexual intercourse to prevent a conception. The drug can also be purchased by a 17 year old male for his partner after showing an age proof at the pharmacy.
