Emma Watson new look with a risque look and a tattoo on her hip isn’t just her. Well, it’s all an act. Emma Watson is simply dressed as her character, Nicki, from The Bling Ring.
The Bling Ring, directed by Sofia Coppola, features Watson in a role that’s a huge departure from the good-girl she cultivated through the Harry Potter franchise.
Watson said, “Really I was open-minded about doing anything, but the one thing I didn’t want to do was get myself into a corset because I was worried I’d never get out again,” in her interview with British GQ. “I knew it would be a really comfortable thing to do, but I felt… I had to dive into something really different. This has been a really big departure for me; it’s a really big character. That’s so exciting for me because it meant I was really acting.”
The Bling Ring is based on a true story of the ‘Hollywood Hills Burglar Bunch,’ also known as the ‘Bling Ring’. It is about the group of California teenagers who broke into celebrities’ homes, including those of Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Audrina Patridge and Megan Fox, and stole their designer products.
Emma Watson explained how exciting it was to play the role of someone like Nicki, when she is a celebrity. “When I read the script and I realized that essentially it was a meditation on fame and what it’s become to our society, I had to do it,” Watson said.
“The character is everything that I felt strongly against – she’s superficial, materialistic, vain, amoral. She’s all of these things and I realized that I hated her. How do you play someone you hate? But I found it really interesting and it gave me a whole new insight into what my job, or my role as an actress, could be,” Watson said.
Although Watson amps up the sexy for this role, she doesn’t plan on taking it any further. When asked whether she would consider playing Anastasia Steele in the movie adaptation of the erotic novel “Fifty Shades Of Grey,” Watson quickly shot down the suggestion.
Emma Watson’s full interview with GQ will be released on April 4. The Bling Ring is set to hit theaters on June 14, 2013.
