China to limit executions

Man in jailChina,a country  which follows  strict measures on punishments  has now  decided to limit the number of executions that the country does.

Its been found out that, China is the only country that has a maximum number of executions when compared to other countries for any year.The limit in execution  step  is taken by the government considering the social activist continues objection and on humanitarian grounds, reports from china.

To find out the number of executions that the country does, the Chinese government gave the Supreme People’s Court (SPC)  power to check the death sentence issued by the lower court and review it. The SPC  which gained the power 2 years ago has  worked on each death punishments and suspended the death sentence for many of the cases. It reports that nearly 1700 people were executed in the year 2008 which is 72% of the world’s total execution done.

SPC  vice president Mr Zhang, quoted in the state-run China Daily, said legislation would be improved to reduce the number of death sentences, and that the SPC would tighten restrictions on the use of capital punishment.

He said: “As it is impossible for the country to abolish capital punishment under current realities and social security conditions, it is an important effort to strictly control the application of the penalty by judicial organs.”

Mr.Zhang  added further that , SPC  had been working to ensure that the death sentence was imposed only on those who had committed extremely serious or heinous crimes that led to grave social consequences.
